• Hebrews 13:1-6

      1. The letter of Hebrews ends with a call to communal living. The tone of this final chapter is that, as Believers, we are connected to each other and therefore we are each affected by the conduct of one another.
      2. Verse 2 reminds us to show hospitality to strangers because of the possibility of entertaining angels. One of the first things to come to mind after reading this verse is Abraham’s encounter with angels at the announcement of Isaac’s birth (Gen. 18:1-10).
      3. In his book Reaching Out, Henri Nouwen wrote this concerning hospitality:
      4. “Hospitality, therefore, means primarily the creation of a free space where the stranger can enter and become a friend instead of an enemy. Hospitality is not to change people, but to offer them space where change can take place” (p71).
  • What does it look like for you to show hospitality to strangers?
  • What does it look like for you to show hospitality to strangers in your church? In your neighborhood? On your job?

    Hebrews 13:7-25

      1. In this section of Hebrews, you will note a recurring theme .
      2. Those who rule over you (vv. 7, 17, 24).
      3. In regards to “those who rule over you”, the Hebrew writer  challenged  readers to do three things:
        1. Obey them (v.7)
        2. Remember them (v. 17)
        3. Greet (embrace, welcome, salute) them (v.24)
    1. Take some time and write down the names of those folks who have been influential to your faith.
      1. Who are the people you look to for spiritual guidance?
      2. Who are the people you look to for spiritual guidance?
    2. Take some time and list the people you think look to you for spiritual guidance.
      1. Who are you influencing by your faith?
      2. If you can’t think of anyone OR you don’t have anyone I want you to start praying for God to give you a Timothy. Someone you can disciple and help grow in their faith. (If we have kids we should be doing this for them. Husbands must do this for our wives.) Pray for someone outside of your home who you can disciple in the faith.
  • CHALLENGE

      1. Contact those folks you lean on for spiritual guidance and thank them for ministering to you. Tell them how much you appreciate their love and concern for your faith and faithfulness to God. Confess where you have not followed their good/godly advice and ask for their forgiveness.
      2. Contact those folks who look to you for spiritual guidance and thank them for allowing you to speak the Word of God into their lives. Confess where you have mislead them and ask for their forgiveness.
  • Conclusion

Obedience, Remembrance, and Greeting ultimately belong to the Lord Jesus. We are to OBEY all that He commanded us. We are to REMEMBER His example of Godly living and imitate Him, and finally, we are to GREET (embrace) Him as the Author & Perfecter of our faith and the Best of God’s provisions for salvation.
